Effect of Starch and Chitosan Addition on Swelling Properties of Neutralized Poly(Acrylic Acid)-Based Superabsorbent Hydrogels Prepared by Using γ-Irradiation Technique

Superabsorbent hydrogels are polymers with a 3D network that have attracted the attention of scientists and industrialists because their fantastic ability to absorb retain water aqueous solutions. The most widely used commercially available superabsorbent synthetic K-acrylate materials. In this novel study, been developed using natural ingredients more biodegradable properties. were synthesized from acrylic acid, cassava starch, chitosan γ -irradiation method under different experimental conditions. γ-irradiation technique was chosen produce free residues may remain when chemical crosslinkers used. effects irradiation dose, acid composition, amount starch on characteristics produced analyzed. resulting further characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) scanning electron microscope (SEM) evaluate structure. thermal behavior products at neutralization doses tested differential calorimetry (DSC).
